About Course

The Autodesk Civil 3D course provides an intensive, project-based dive into the premier 3D modeling software utilized by modern civil engineers, infrastructure designers, and heavy civil construction managers. Unlike standard drafting tools, Civil 3D is strictly essential for this career path because it utilizes intelligent, dynamic models to automate complex infrastructure tasks like site grading, road design, and earthwork calculations, drastically reducing costly manual errors. Ideal for engineering students and future project managers seeking a competitive edge, this training focuses on constructible, real-world workflows rather than just basic software navigation. By the end of the four weeks, you will learn how to process raw survey data, build dynamic 3D terrain surfaces, engineer road corridors and pipe networks, and extract accurate material quantities for bidding.

What Will You Learn?

  • Navigating the Civil 3D interface, Toolspace, and Ribbon.
  • Setting up and managing project Data Shortcuts.
  • Importing raw survey data and managing point groups.
  • Generating and analyzing 3D TIN surfaces.
  • Designing horizontal alignments and right-of-way offsets.
  • Sampling existing ground and designing finished grade vertical profiles.
  • Creating road assemblies and building dynamic 3D corridors.
  • Grading building pads and sites using Feature Lines.
  • Designing gravity pipe networks (storm/sanitary).
  • Extracting earthwork volumes and material quantity takeoffs (QTO)
  • Automating the production of Plan & Profile construction sheets.

Course Content

Week 1: The Foundation – Data, Terrain, and Existing Conditions
Focus: Establishing the existing site. As you know from the field, if the base ground model is wrong, the entire project is compromised from day one.

  • Interface Mastery and Data Management
  • Survey Data and Point Management
  • 3D Surface Modeling and Analysis

Week 2: Geometric Design – Alignments and Profiles
Focus: Establishing the horizontal and vertical control for linear infrastructure.

Week 3: Dynamic 3D Modeling – Assemblies, Corridors, and Grading
Focus: Bringing the 2D linework and profiles into a fully constructible 3D space.

Week 4: Utilities, Quantities, and Final Deliverables
Focus: Underground systems, material estimating, and producing the final plan sets.

Hands-On Project
This project simulates a real-world deliverable, forcing students to utilize all the tools learned in Weeks 1 through 4.
